FAQ

How is it free?

We have a unique business model: we are hired by filmmakers, production companies, and movie studios to create engagement opportunities for their films. They pay for this service, so we can bring our content to teachers for free. While there may be a speakers fee for some programs, we strive to keep any fees or costs at an absolute minimum.

What if I want a small screening for my class?

There is no screening that is too big or too small. If you’re interested in a schoolwide screening, in using a film in your classroom, or in organizing a screening or professional development for your district – we can help. Our goal is to provide relevant, dynamic, standards-based content to educators and classrooms around the world.

Who writes your educational guides and what makes them different from other resources?

We are media literacy and film education experts, and as such, we write all of our guides ourselves. We have vast experience in curriculum development and design, teacher training, and classroom instruction. When necessary, we work with an advisory team of content-area experts, including experts in the natural sciences. One of the defining characteristics of our materials is that we do not write guides that endeavor to teach a particular subject, but rather we write guides that facilitate the use of our films – and through those films, students are able to access, relate to,and learn about the subject that the film addresses. While this may seem like a small difference, for us, for our filmmakers, and for the educators who use these films, it’s an important differentiating factor and provides a huge amount of value added to the filmmakers we work with and the educators we serve.

How do I join a PD?

We have professional development throughout the year – sign up for our newsletter and you’ll find out when the next one is coming up. They are always free, and now more often than not they are online and easy to attend. At the end of every PD, you’ll get a downloadable certificate to submit to your school for PD credit.

What if I want to organize a PD or event for my school or organization?

We love supporting the work of existing organizations with our content, and we’d love to partner with you. Contact us – shoot us an email or give us a call and we’ll work with you to design a program that’s perfect for your organization, your networks, and your specific goals.

Who are your educational partners?

We work with hundreds of local, state, national, and even international educational organizations from around the country, and around the globe. We are proud to have partnered with some of the top educational organizations, including the National Council for the Social Studies, Communities in Schools, National Association for Media Literacy Education, the American Medical Association, the National Science Teachers Association, the American Library Association, Teach for America, PBS LearningMedia, the American Bar Association, National Agriculture in Schools, National Rural Education Association, and so many more.

Do you work with middle schools, high schools, or universities?

We work with all sorts of schools. Most of our content aligns with curricula for students in 6th grade and above, but we’ve done work in elementary schools, middle, high schools, colleges, and graduate programs. We also host and execute
professional development – not only for teachers, but for medical professionals and law professionals. If there’s a community that wants to learn, we bring the content.

What are a few examples of schools that you have worked with?

We’ve been honored to partner with so many incredible schools – from K-12 school districts including DeKalb (GA), Chicago (IL), Los Angeles (CA), St. Louis (MO), Augustana (ME), Virginia Beach (VA), to individual schools including South Mecklenburg High School, Horace Mann School, the Academy of Innovative Technology, Phelps Architecture & Construction High School, and Pomfret School.
